Plagiarism and Similarity Check Policy
Plagiarism and Similarity Check Policy
The Proceedings of the International Music and Performing Arts Conference (IMPAC Proceedings) takes plagiarism and academic dishonesty seriously. To safeguard the integrity of the scholarly record, all submissions are subject to plagiarism and similarity checks prior to review and publication.
1. Screening Process
-
All manuscripts submitted to IMPAC Proceedings are checked using recognised plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin or iThenticate).
-
The similarity report is reviewed by the Editorial Board to determine whether overlap is within acceptable academic limits.
2. Acceptable Threshold
-
A similarity index of less than 20% is generally considered acceptable, excluding references, standard phrases, and methodology descriptions.
-
Manuscripts exceeding this threshold may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected outright, depending on the extent and nature of the overlap.
3. Types of Unacceptable Practice
-
Plagiarism: Direct copying of text, ideas, images, or data without proper citation.
-
Self-plagiarism: Reusing significant parts of one’s own previously published work without proper citation or acknowledgement.
-
Mosaic plagiarism: Paraphrasing others’ work without adequate credit.
-
Duplicate submission: Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals or proceedings simultaneously.
4. Actions Taken
-
If plagiarism is detected before publication, the manuscript will be rejected.
-
If plagiarism is detected after publication, the article will be retracted in accordance with the Post Publication Policy and COPE Retraction Guidelines.
-
Authors found guilty of misconduct may be barred from submitting to future volumes of IMPAC Proceedings.
5. Author Responsibility
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts are free of plagiarism and properly cite all sources. They may be asked to provide raw data, drafts, or permissions for materials used in the manuscript.
