Abstract

Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk meneroka secara menyeluruh evolusi sejarah dan dimensi kepelbagaian linguistik bahasa Melayu, menonjolkan peranannya dalam memupuk kesalinghubungan, pertukaran budaya, dan persefahaman bersama di peringkat global, khususnya di Asia Tenggara. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan sejarah dan analitikal, iaitu meneliti peranan bahasa Melayu, pengaruh transnasionalnya, dan keupayaannya untuk menyesuaikan diri dengan pelbagai konteks budaya, meneliti  gaya yang sedang muncul, kemajuan teknologi, dan inisiatif pendidikan yang menyumbang kepada pengantarabangsaan bahasa Melayu. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan kesan signifikan terhadap fungsi bahasa Melayu sebagai bahasa antarabangsa dalam ASEAN. Dapatan kajian juga menunjukkan bahawa bahasa Melayu mempunyai potensi untuk menjadi wadah komunikasi global, memupuk kesalinghubungan dan pertukaran budaya yang lebih besar, yang boleh membawa kepada peningkatan persefahaman bersama dan perpaduan di kalangan negara, terutamanya dalam rantau ASEAN. Implikasi kajian menunjukkan bahawa pengantarabangsaan Bahasa Melayu boleh meningkatkan persefahaman dan toleransi antara negara-negara, bukan sahaja di Asia Tenggara tetapi juga di peringkat global. Penonjolan Bahasa Melayu sebagai wadah komunikasi serantau mungkin berupaya mengurangkan dominasi bahasa asing dan mempromosikan nilai budaya tempatan di rantau ASEAN.

The purpose of this study is to comprehensively explore the historical evolution and linguistic diversity dimensions of the Malay language, highlighting its role in fostering connectivity, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding at the global level, particularly in Southeast Asia. This study employs a historical and analytical approach, examining the role of the Malay language, its transnational influence, and its adaptability to diverse cultural contexts. It also investigates emerging trends, technological advancements, and educational initiatives that contribute to the internationalization of the Malay language. The study’s findings indicate a significant impact on the function of the Malay language as an international language within ASEAN. The findings also suggest that Malay has the potential to serve as a global communication medium, fostering greater connectivity and cultural exchange. The study's implications suggest that the internationalization of the Malay language could enhance understanding and tolerance between countries, not only within Southeast Asia but also globally. Elevating Malay as a regional communication medium could potentially reduce the dominance of foreign languages and promote local cultural values within the ASEAN region.
