Abstract

Kajian bertujuan untuk memanfaatkan kemahiran dan kecenderungan pelajar abad ke-21 untuk meningkatkan keyakinan mereka dalam menggunakan bahasa Melayu. Kajian berbentuk kualitatif ini mengumpul maklumat dengan mendapatkan maklum balas daripada sekumpulan pelajar tahun satu di maktab rendah di Singapura. Teori motivasi model ARCS yang dibangunkan John Keller (1979) menjadi sandaran di sebalik penyelidikan ini. Para pelajar berasa puas dan bangga dengan hasil ciptaan mereka dan lebih yakin menggunakan bahasa Melayu. Kajian ini membuktikan bahawa keseronokan pembelajaran dapat dipupuk apabila pelajar bermotivasi untuk mengambil bahagian secara aktif dan bermakna tanpa paksaan. Hasil kajian ini membuktikan akan pentingnya mempersiap pelajar dengan kemahiran abad ke-21 bagi merangsang kecenderungan mereka sebagai penyumbang kepada masyarakat, selaras dengan Visi Arif Budiman, lantas memartabatkan pengajaran dan pembelajaran bahasa Melayu di Singapura. Hasil kajian mengesahkan kepentingan motivasi dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Melayu dan para pendidik perlu menimbangkan untuk memupuk kecekapan abad ke-21 dan Visi Arif Budiman dalam konteks pembelajaran di Singapura.

The study aims to utilise the skills and competencies of 21st century students to increase their confidence in using the Malay language. This qualitative study collects information by getting feedback from a group of first-year students in a junior college in Singapore. The motivational theory of the ARCS model developed by John Keller (1979) is the basis behind this research. The students feel satisfied and proud of their creations and are more confident in using the Malay language. This study proves that joy of learning can be developed when students are motivated to participate without coercion. This study proves the importance of preparing students with 21st century skills to stimulate their tendencies as contributors to society, in line with Arif Budiman's Vision, thus dignifying the teaching and learning of the Malay language in Singapore. It confirms the importance of motivation in Malay language learning and educators need to consider to foster 21st century competencies and Arif Budiman's Vision in the context of learning in Singapore.
