Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti unsur kesantunan berbahasa guru berdasarkan pandangan pakar dalam komuniti pendidikan di Malaysia. Kajian ini menggunakan reka bentuk kualitatif kajian kes. Sejumlah 27 orang pakar daripada pelbagai kategori seperti linguistik, sosiolinguistik, pendidikan, budaya, dan komunikasi telah ditemu bual secara separa berstruktur dengan berpandukan protokol temu bual yang telah dibina. Berdasarkan analisis tematik, dua tema utama kesantunan berbahasa telah dikenal pasti, iaitu tema lisan dan bukan lisan dengan beberapa subtema berkaitan. Kajian ini boleh dijadikan asas utama dalam pembinaan instrumen pengukuran kesantunan berbahasa guru yang belum pernah dibina lagi setakat ini dan seterusnya menghuraikan fenomena kesantunan berbahasa guru di Malaysia. Kajian ini mengupas definisi kesantunan berbahasa guru dari perspektif pakar dan boleh dijadikan landasan untuk pembinaan model kesantunan berbahasa guru di Malaysia.
This study aims to identify elements of teachers’ linguistic politeness based on experts’ perspectives within the educational community in Malaysia. This study employed a qualitative case study design. A total of 27 experts from various fields such as linguistics, sociolinguistics, education, culture, and communication were interviewed through semi-structured interviews guided by a constructed interview protocol. Based on thematic analysis, two main themes of linguistic politeness were identified, namely verbal and non-verbal, with several related sub-themes. This study can serve as the primary foundation for developing an instrument to measure teachers’ linguistic politeness, which has not yet been constructed, and subsequently explain the phenomenon of teachers’ linguistic politeness in Malaysia. This study unpacks the definition of teachers’ linguistic politeness from experts’ perspectives and may serve as a basis for developing a model of teachers’ linguistic politeness in Malaysia.
